Attendance

Attendance and Absence

Good attendance is expected and rewarded at The Abbey Primary School. Regular attendance helps children make the most of their learning opportunities and supports their overall progress in school.

Doors open at 8.30am (KS2) and 8.35am (KS1) each morning so that children are in their classrooms and ready to learn by 8:40am. Late arrivals and late collections are monitored on a daily basis.

Reporting an Absence

If your child is unable to attend school due to illness, please notify the school office as soon as possible.

The school operates a 24-hour telephone answering service, enabling parents and carers to report an absence at any time.

Attendance Rewards

Good attendance is recognised and rewarded at The Abbey Primary School.

  • An attendance award is given to the class with the best attendance each week.
  • There is also a reward for the class with the best attendance across the school year.

Term-Time Leave

The school does not authorise term-time holidays.

From 1st September 2013, the law gives no entitlement to parents to take their child on holiday during term time.

Any application for leave must only be made in exceptional circumstances, and Headteachers would not be expected to class any term-time holiday as exceptional.

Fixed Penalty Notices

Parents can be fined by the Local Authority for unauthorised term-time absence.

The initial Fixed Penalty Notice is:

£80 per parent, per child

For example:

Two parents and two children = £320
